MIAMI TWP.
- The Miami Township Recreation Department has much
to offer school-age children and their families, but
one of Recreation Director Krystin Thibodeau's goals
was to have more events for seniors.
One of these senior events is the Senior Spring
Fling, which is 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 9,
at Mulberry Elementary, 5950 Buckwheat Road.
"We just wanted to give honor and tribute to
our senior residents," said Thibodeau.
The dance will include dinner, catered by
Lighthouse Pasta and Grill, and music provided by
Matt Snow, a township resident who will be doing a
Sinatra tribute show, she said.
Mary Makley Wolff, a Miami Township trustee, will
be attending the event to help out.
"Working with seniors has always been a
passion for me," she said. "I've always
had a respect for them."
"To me, this is just great that they're
doing this," she said of the dance. "It
offers opportunities to our older adults. It gives
seniors a chance to make friends and look out for
each other."
"It's just a nice thing to do," she
said.
About 50 people have signed up so far, said
Thibodeau. The cost for the dance is $10 per person.
To register, contact the township's recreation
department at 248-3725, ext. 116.
The Senior Spring Fling isn't the only recreation
opportunity for area senior citizens. Other
activities, such as Senior Energy, swing dancing and
water aerobics, are offered as well. For more
